Access to a family doctor
Vous êtes ici:

Here’s some useful information:

At all times, if you have an emergency, call 911 or go to the hospital emergency room. You can also dial 811 for info-santé or info-social.

We also remind you that you can register on the Guichet d’accès à un médecin de famille (GAMF) waiting list, or update your contact information if you’re already on the list, by visiting www.gamf.gouv.qc.ca.

To be eligible for GAMF registration :

  • You must have a valid Québec health insurance number;
  • You must remain at the address on file with the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec: if this is not the case, to update your address, you can visit address.gouv.qc.ca or contact the RAMQ at 1-800-561-9749;
  • You do not need to be registered with a family doctor. If you have a family doctor in the Islands, please contact his or her clinic if you need services; if you’ve moved to the region and your family doctor is out of town, you can apply for eligibility by contacting GACO.

What’s more, in order for a doctor to be able to offer you a first appointment, his or her clinic must be able to reach you using the contact information provided in your GAMF registration. That’s why it’s so important to keep your contact details up to date. Please note that updating your contact details will not affect your registration.

You can do so online at www.gamf.gouv.qc.ca or by contacting GACO at 418-986-2121, ext. 8422, to leave a message and mention :

  • Your full name,
  • Your date of birth,
  • A daytime contact number (Monday to Friday),
  • And the reason for your call.

However, we will not be able to tell you where you are on the list or how long you will have to wait, as this depends on various factors that may fluctuate, including the availability of medical resources, a change in the health status of certain users or the number of people on the waiting list in our region.
